Overview

◾Cardano is a proof-of-stake blockchain designed for smart contracts, decentralized applications, digital assets, and on-chain governance. Its development approach emphasizes academic research, formal methods, and peer-reviewed protocol design. ADA is the network’s native cryptocurrency and is used for transactions, staking, and participation in Cardano’s decentralized governance system. The ecosystem includes decentralized finance, tokenized assets, identity and traceability applications, and developer tooling. Cardano also continues work on scaling and protocol improvements, including the Leios development program and upgrades to its node and smart-contract infrastructure. ◾Cardano is a Layer 1 blockchain built around a proof-of-stake consensus model and a research-driven development process. Its architecture supports native assets, smart contracts, decentralized applications, staking, and community-led governance. ADA serves as the network’s native asset and supports transaction fees, staking participation, and governance-related activity. ◾Cardano’s ecosystem includes DeFi applications, decentralized exchanges, lending platforms, digital-asset infrastructure, and real-world traceability projects. The network has also continued developing scaling technology through the Leios program, alongside improvements to the node, Plutus smart-contract environment, Hydra, and other ecosystem tooling. Cardano’s governance model includes DReps, stake pool operators, and a Constitutional Committee, giving participants a role in protocol decision-making.
