Overview
◾Sei is a Layer 1 blockchain designed for applications that need fast, low-cost transactions. Its network supports Ethereum-compatible smart contracts and uses parallel execution to process activity efficiently. Developers can build applications such as decentralized exchanges, financial services, games, and other on-chain products. SEI is the network’s native asset, used for transaction fees and proof-of-stake participation. The project is developing further execution, storage, and consensus upgrades under its Giga roadmap. Proposed performance targets are goals, not current network guarantees. ◾Sei is a proof-of-stake Layer 1 network with an Ethereum-compatible execution environment. Its design aims to let developers deploy smart contracts while processing suitable transactions in parallel. This makes the network relevant to applications with frequent on-chain interactions, including decentralized finance and other consumer-facing services. ◾SEI is the native network token. It is used to pay transaction fees and participate in staking and network security. As with other proof-of-stake networks, participation and rewards depend on network rules and carry risks; they are not guaranteed returns. ◾Sei’s existing network and Ethereum-compatible application environment should be distinguished from its longer-term Giga roadmap. The project has described upgrades to execution, storage, and consensus intended to improve capacity. Its August 2026 project update said the first Ares and Eidos components were being introduced through the Sei 6.6 release, while further work would continue in later releases. Future throughput targets should not be presented as performance already delivered across the complete system.
