Overview

◾ Stacks (STX) is a blockchain network that extends Bitcoin's capabilities by supporting smart contracts and decentralized applications. It enables developers to build financial services and other on-chain applications while using Bitcoin as its settlement foundation. The network supports Bitcoin-related decentralized finance, digital asset applications and smart-contract execution through its own blockchain infrastructure. STX is the network's native token, used for transaction fees and as part of its consensus and staking-related mechanisms. Stacks is also developing Bitcoin staking infrastructure designed to let participants earn BTC-denominated rewards under its protocol mechanisms. Its ecosystem connects Bitcoin-focused financial applications with programmable blockchain functionality. ◾ Stacks is a Bitcoin-focused blockchain designed to bring programmable applications and financial activity to the Bitcoin ecosystem. Unlike applications that operate entirely through Bitcoin's base-layer transaction model, Stacks provides its own execution environment for smart contracts and decentralized applications while anchoring important aspects of its operation to Bitcoin. ◾ The network supports smart contracts written in Clarity and Bitcoin-linked assets and applications, including sBTC infrastructure. Its Proof of Transfer (PoX) consensus mechanism connects Stacks mining and participation to Bitcoin. STX is the native token used for network transaction fees and plays a role in Stacks' staking and consensus-related economic mechanisms. ◾ In 2026, Stacks expanded its Bitcoin-focused financial strategy with the launch of Bitcoin staking through the Genesis Bond. This mechanism is designed to provide BTC-denominated rewards while preserving Bitcoin custody under the relevant participation arrangements. The project is also outlining a longer-term development vision covering Bitcoin capital markets, privacy and post-quantum security. ◾ These initiatives have different maturity levels: existing network capabilities and the launched staking mechanism should be distinguished from future roadmap goals. Planned upgrades, institutional adoption and ecosystem growth remain subject to implementation, participation and market conditions.
